Jammin’ Jimmy Olson started his career at the age of 14 in Houston, TX, sneaking out his parent’s house and riding his bicycle up to 104.1 KRBE where he answered the request line for Robin Flores. He soon became a paid employee answering the phones and producing the Afternoon Drive Show and Talent Magical Matt Alan. That’s how it all started from there he worked at KHYI Y-95 Dallas, KAFX KFOX 95.5 Lufkin, KJKC Power 102 Corpus Christi. He then found himself back in Houston in 1988 doing nights on Clear Channel’s first Major Market station KHYS Kiss 98.5, a move in from Port Arthur, TX where he became Jammin’ Jimmy Olson “The Boy in the Box”, for 3 years he was the #1 Rated Night Show in Houston 12-34, then the call came to launch his own station, which Cook Inlet, Eskimos from Alaska owned, he named the station 97.9 The Box and the call letters where changed to KBXX, where he was again the #1 Night Show in Houston, this time 12-54. His namesake is still the top rated station in Houston. In 1992 he was offered a job he couldn’t refuse from John Lynch, Sr. who owned Noble Broadcast and KMJQ Magic 102 in Houston, the station he toppled in the rating with KBXX. He was given free rein and programmed both KMJQ and 1590 KYOK which simulcast his Night Show which went #1 12-54 in 3 months and beat the competition the station he gave birth to KBXX, a feat which never has been achieved again. During the early ‘90’s Jimmy flew back and forth every other weekend to either New York doing a Saturday Afternoon Show on WBLS and the other weekend in Los Angeles doing a Saturday Afternoon Show on KPWR Power 106. Jimmy went back to Houston where he again went to work for KBXX and this time he was doing the Afternoon Show/Asst. PD where again he had the #1 Rated Show in Houston 12-54. Jimmy worked at El Dorado Communication’s KXTJ Super Tejano 108 doing the Night Show, at Cox Radio’s KTHT Hot 97.1 in Houston doing Mornings and Afternoon Drive.
Jimmy then found himself in Tyler, TX with Waller Broadcasting where they tapped him for the Morning Show which he did for over 4 years rising to VP of Operations plus he programmed KMPA and helped bring on air their new signal KZXM Kompa 94.3 which simulcast on KMPA Kompa 103.1, he also sold advertising for the company where he became the #1 Seller and collector of revenue. He was with Waller Broadcasting for 6 years and was VP of Operations for his last 4 years.
In June 2015 Jimmy founded his own Internet based radio station (JJORadio.com) which has grown to record listeners acknowledged by AllAccess.com. Jimmy continues his charity and philanthropic work in the community he resides.
Since 1999, Jimmy does his Annual Spring Food Drive in March (Tyler) April (Houston) and a Fall Food Drive in September (Tyler) October (Houston). His Annual Stuffing the Bus School Supply Drive in July (Tyler) August (Houston). Finally his Annual Ton of Toys Toy Drive November (Houston) December (Tyler).
In August 2017 Jimmy was again tapped to oversee a 5 station cluster in the Tyler/Longview Texas market. FUN 95.3 & 102.3 (Top 40) 94.3 The Bull (New Country) Super Radio 103.1 (Regional Hispanic) Classic Hits 103.9
